The backstory for White Wolf's game, Exalted, is pretty cool - your characters are basically demigods who keep being reborn over and over again, so one of the things you can do is loot your own tomb to find the weapons you had in a previous life. (Mind you, they do tend to be guarded by nasty, unpleasant things...)
