Miranda's lovely samurai maiden, Shiba Mayumi.
This was my first portrait in the series, and I'm still
very proud of it. Mayumi has the advantage Benten's Blessing, meaning
she is drop-dead gorgeous, and she is a whiz with her Naginata, a family
heirloom. I couldn't resist giving her a big Eboshi-style hat, a la
Lady Eboshi from the animated film Princess
Mononoke, by Hayao Miyazaki. The armor is copied from a book. Mayumi's
only real difficulty lies in her being Haunted by a disapproving ancestor,
who wants her to stop with all the silly fighting and get married, hence
the scolding shadow on the wall behind her. Colored pencil over Ink
& brush, 8 1/2" x 11".
