the term "Voonith" is taken from H. P. Lovecraft. It's a briefly-mentioned aquatic predator, something like a crocodile. This alien creature owes more to the idea of chameleons and frogs, with its gripping limbs and twin spring-loaded radulae (that's tongues with teeth on them) ready to pop out and grab the unwary. I've always loved ambush predators; creatures that move slowly and strike quickly. People tend to underestimate them. Crunch! |
